We are thrilled to announce the publication of a pioneering study in the Journal Autism, titled Literacy in nonspeaking autistic people, which used our Letterboard App for data collection. This research marks a monumental step in the study of literacy among nonspeaking autistic people.
The Letterboard App Project
This Project has been meticulously developed to push the boundaries of research in the study of literacy in nonspeaking autistic people. The Letterboard App played a crucial role by collecting precise, objective kinematic data which was fundamental to the recent study published in the Journal of Autism. It offers an innovative and reliable platform for researchers, enhancing their ability to conduct studies with heightened accuracy and efficiency. By streamlining the data collection process, the app allows for a more thorough and efficient analysis, ensuring that researchers can focus on interpreting the data and drawing meaningful conclusions. This not only supports the scientific community but also provides valuable insights that could lead to better support and understanding of nonspeaking autistic individuals.

The Letterboard App Project and the Study of Literacy in Nospeaking Autistic People
The study, led by Dr. V. Jaswal at the University of Virginia, explored literacy in nonspeaking autistic people. Our application assisted in this study by capturing real-time user interactions, demonstrating its versatility and reliability as a research tool.
The key findings from the study suggest that:
…at least five times more participants have foundational literacy skills than would be expected from professional estimates based on nonspeaking people’s overt behavior.

This study demonstrates the importance of technology in advancing our understanding of literacy in non-speaking autistic people. These insights not only contribute to the academic community but also pave the way for practical applications that can support a deeper understanding of kinematic communication that can be leveraged to assist non-speaking autistics that also inform their caregivers and support persons.
